The department fondly remembers AREC leader and professor emeritus

December 18, 2014

Dr. Curtis received his Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Maryland and, after teaching at VPI and NC State, returned to serve as a professor, department head, and director of the Maryland Cooperative Extension Service. His progressive policies bestowed a legacy of benefit to the state as he revitalized the Maryland 4-H Foundation and implemented a successful marine advisory program for Chesapeake Bay commercial and pleasure boaters as well as an energy use and conservation program for the general public. Governor Hughes presented a "State of Maryland Certificate of Distinguished Citizenship” to Dr. Curtis upon his retirement.

His obituary appears in the Wilmington, NC, Port City Daily.
