Dr. Wes Musser named ARER Fellow

July 2, 2013

The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics is very pleased to announce that Dr. Wesley Musser was named a fellow by the Northeastern Agricultural and Resource Economics Association.  The award was established in 2012 for authors who have demonstrated sustained excellence in research and commitment to the association's journal.  The award is given to authors who have published five or more peer-reviewed articles in Agricultural and Resource Economics Review (ARER). This group of ARER Fellows represents less than 1% of the total number of authors who have published in these journals.

This award culminates a long list of accomplishments and awards for Dr. Musser. He has been President of the Northeastern Association of Agricultural and Resource Economics and co-editor of the Review of Agricultural and Resource Economics.  He has also received the Distinguished Member Award for the Northeastern Association of Agricultural and Resource Economics in 1995 and 2007.

Dr. Musser’s research focuses on farm management and finance with a particular emphasis on risk management. Moreover, he translates that research into programs that help farmers. Patrick McMillan, writing for the Maryland Secretary of Agriculture, stated: “The crop insurance workshops that Dr. Musser was responsible for planning, developing, and implementing in the months prior to the 2002 planting season resulted in increased participation in the crop insurance program by Maryland famers. The adverse economic impact of the 2002 drought will be lessened for many famers as a result of Dr. Musser's efforts.”

Dr. Musser received a BS and MS from the University of Nebraska and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.  Please join the Department in congratulating Dr. Musser on this well-deserved recognition by the Northeastern Agricultural and Resource Economics Association of his extraordinary accomplishments.
