Students in the minor in Resource and Agricultural Policy in Economic Development learn how economic analysis can be used to understand agricultural and resource issues in developing countries. Students examine the relationships between food supply, population and world hunger; and between agricultural development, population and the environment. They will investigate the importance of incentives in the exploitation of natural resources and how economics can help inform public policies in developing countries. Students will address questions such as: What population control policies have proven effective? What does economics have to tell us about how to achieve economic growth? What are various approaches to water policy that may improve agricultural productivity in developing countries? This minor is open to students of all majors, with the usual stipulation that no more than six credits can be used to meet requirements of a major and of a minor.
