The minor in Environmental Economics and Policy teaches students how economic analysis can be used to improve environmental policymaking. The minor examines pollution problems and how economic principles can be used to inform public policy; it considers the role of economics in the management of natural resources such as fishery, forest and water resources; and it examines the economics of land use for urban, agricultural, and other uses. Students will address questions such as: How can zoning be used to create greenways? What is the effect of a carbon tax on energy consumption? How should commercial fishing be regulated to ensure efficiency and sustainability? This minor is open to students of all majors, with the usual stipulation that no more than six credits can be used to meet requirements of a major and of a minor.
