The AREC major requires:

  • 6 "prerequisite" courses:  ECON 200, 201,  and 306;  calculus; ECON 321; and STAT 100 or other statistics course.
  • 7  upper level AREC classes (AREC 4xx level classes require ECON 306 as a prerequisite).  Specific courses are listed for illustration purposes; other courses also can be used to meet this requirement
  • 6 classes making up a "field".  A field is any six classes that form a coherent area of study that complements the study in AREC.
  • A second field is recommended, but not required.  The second field classes are shown in the above sample curriculum.
  • For all students who became AREC majors after March 2008, all courses must be passed with a grade of C or better to count towards prerequisite courses, major core courses, or field requirements.  “C or better” means any grade for which the University awards 2 or more quality points in calculating GPA.  This does not apply to students who were already AREC majors prior to March 2008.

Courses marked "CORE" meet the general studies requirements (the CORE requirements) which must be met by all students at UMCP.
